Halloween Costumes using SunBody Hats!

    Halloween is next Thursday and we've noticed an interesting trend in hat sales the past few weeks. The 3" fedora is a popular style, but sales have really picked up this month, with most customers requesting to receive their hat by Halloween. After doing a little research, we found out that many folks are using the hats as part of a Halloween costume!

    It's probably safe to say that most of us have seen the movie "Jurassic Park." If you haven't seen it, maybe you're still able to picture one of the lead characters, Dr. Alan Grant (played by Sam Neill). Throughout the movie, Dr. Grant wears a hat that looks quite a bit like our 3" fedora! He even has a 5-strand horse hair hatband that he wears with it, similar to a style we carry!

    Here is a photo that was submitted by Bryan Scheff to our July 2013 "How Do You SunBody?" contest. 

    Bryan writes: "My 3 year old loves dinosaurs. So when we asked her what she wanted to be for Halloween, without hesitation, she said a T-Rex. My wife and I thought it would be cute to do a family costume so we all went to Disney's "Mickey's Not so Scary Halloween Party" as Jurassic Park. Sunbody offered the perfect hat (3" Fedora) for my Dr. Alan Grant costume. We were a huge hit with the guests and park staff. I hope you enjoy the photos." 

    Did you know? Universal has another Jurassic Park movie in the works! It is currently in the casting process but will be released in 3D summer of 2015. We wonder if this hat will make another appearance! Regardless, your Dr. Grant costume is sure to stay relevant and a crowd favorite for years to come! (As an added bonus, you can wear the hat day-to-day!)

1 MILLION Hats Sold!

Thanks to you, we've done it! We've sold a million hats!

If you've been to our website recently, you probably noticed the countdown running on the top of our home page. We anxiously watched that number trickled down-from thousands to hundreds, from hundreds to tens, from tens to 0! The excitement in the office was contagious as we awaited the day when the countdown would hit zero and we could officially say that we have sold 1,000,000 hats.

On October 8, 2013, the countdown hit zero! The SunBody crew headed out to Thai Spice for a celebratory lunch to begin to celebrate this milestone.

Fittingly, the one millionth hat was a Top Hat, purchased by a Top Customer - Mr. Tony Wilson of Snail Creek Hat Company in Luckenbach, Texas!  We customized the hat so that Tony could display it in his shop and have ultimate bragging rights. As you may know, Tony has been an incredible friend to SunBody over the years and we couldn't think of a finer dealer to sell this commemorative hat to.

But in truth, thousands of you, our customers, hatmakers, suppliers and co-workers have been vital to our success.

Throughout the years, you all have told us your stories and shared your photos. From the young to the young at heart, you have all played an active roll in our thriving community.

Reata Brannaman shows off her SunBody hat in “Buck”, the movie

 The recent release of the movie “Buck” has quite a few people wondering where Reata Brannaman has gotten her hat. After the movie was released in June of 2011 the phone calls started to pour in.

 The movie is a Sundance award-winning documentary about Buck Brannaman, a horse trainer in the tradition of the gentle methods used by Tom Dorrance and Ray Hunt.  Many find his manner and methods not only inspiring, but moving.

 Reata is Buck’s daughter, and travels with him to the horse clinics he gives around the country.  When people now see Reata, they see her fashion and style and can’t help but want that same look.

 Reata’s mother, Mary Brannaman, has been wearing our hats for years and started selling them in 2002 at the horse clinics.  Reata has now created her own business, Reata Ranchwear, selling SunBody hats and horse gear. 

 Working with Reata, we are happy to now offer the hat she wears and sells at the clinics.  Naturally, we call it “Reata”.  It is available in different brim widths and trim colors.

 We are honored that Reata likes our hats and that we are able to work with her and her family.

Hat Diplomacy - SunBody in Spain

We just received these pictures of an international event held at the U.S. Embassy in Spain with representatives from around the globe.  We expressed several hundred SunBody hats to them in September just in time for the event.

 

Houston Mayor Sports a SunBody in the Art Car Parade

Houston Mayor Annise Parker was wearing a 4" Brim Fedora in Houston's annual Art Car Parade yesterday (May 22, 2011) in the very first car of the parade!  Now that's a politician with taste!

Many other SunBody hats were seen being proudly worn by parade participants and spectators alike.

 

Long Rider in Texas - Sad News

Bernice Ende, who is riding a horse from Washington state to Texas to New England is now in Central Texas. I received the sad news from her today that her gray mare, Honor, broke her leg while in Wimberly, TX and had to be put down. She had traveled more than 13,000 miles with Honor.

But Long Rider that she is, Bernice will continue her ride on her remaining horse, Essie, leaving from Yoakum, Texas mid next week. Be sure to check out her website: Endeofthetrail.com

This Long-Rider Know A Good Hat When She Sees It!

This year we are VERY happy to be sponsoring Ms. Bernice Ende who is a Long Trail Rider.  She is about to head out for a 2-1/2 year trek across our great country.  Bernice has worn her SunBody Hat for YEARS, in fact we are very excited to see that in almost all of her pictures she is wearing our 6" low crown gus!

It's one of the most frequently asked questions I hear.

Understandably so, as the Sunbody Hats are indeed striking.  I wear a 6-inch Gus with a low crown and a stampede string.  It is one of the many Classic Old West hats that Sunbody offers.  My 6-inch Gus offers much needed protection from the sun, holds up to relentless wind, keeps the rain off my back and shoulders, all the while continuing to look great!

I prefer a good palm hat to a felt hat as they are cooler and will hold up to rain and wind much better.  As a long rider, a hat is an intregal part of my attire.  Although this is the first year Sunbody has sponsored one of my rides, it will be the fourth year I have ridden with a Sunbody Hat on my head.  I am deligted to finally have them on the website."
